How To Grow Your Impact & Income On Instagram

Unless you’ve been living on a different planet you know that these days most of our interactions happen online.

We chat, we comment, we interact and we build relationships.

While I don’t think that social media interaction should replace face to face connection, I do know that online conversations and communication can be very effective and can produce positive results …

… if it’s done the right way.

Yes, you can use social media for posting pretty pictures and some super cool hashtags, BUT I’m here to tell you that if you want to, you can use social media for so much more.

Now, I know! Believe me.

Social media can be very intimidating. It can feel confusing. And on top of that, it is ever-changing.

Boy, do I know.

While the logistics of social media may be ever-changing the foundations for building trustworthy relationships and making meaningful connections remain the same.

So, in this post, I don’t want to yet give you another tool on when to post or how to get the most likes but I actually want to focus on how to talk to YOUR peeps, sharing YOUR authentic message in a STRATEGIC way.

You can use the following tips to expand your reach, magnify your effectiveness and grow your audience and platform at the same time — without the icky factor, rather in an honest, “I want to really help you and connect with you” kinda way.

Sounds good?

Awesome! Let’s dive in.

If you want to use social media for more than just posting random pretty pictures you’ve got to have a clear vision as to what your purpose is for showing up! Why are you on it and what are you trying to accomplish? Are you trying to bring awareness to the topic you are passionate about? Are you looking for potential clients? What is the desired outcome?

When you know your “why” it will dictate your content. For example, if you are a fitness coach and your goal is to connect with potential clients that you can help then some of your posts and pictures will have to reflect the fact that you are an expert at helping people develop healthy habits in their lives.

Now, just to make sure that we don’t misunderstand each other. Not ALL of your posts should be about you and what you do. Because let’s face it, no one wants to hear all about you  Just like in real life, our online lives should be diverse and personal. So mixing it up is crucial but knowing your "why" will also help you always stay aligned with your message.

One of my favorite online platforms out of all the ones that are out there is Instagram. Why? Because I believe it’s the most personal. And how personal you want to get really depends on you and your audience.

If you are the face of your brand (speaker/blogger/author/singer/entrepreneur or small business owner) then your social media feed and content is probably going to be more personal.

People want to connect with real people. So, your audience will trust you more when they can put a face to the brand — when they get to see a bit into your life or behind the scenes. That’s just how things work in real life too.

Knowing who you are talking to is extremely crucial as well. When you are crafting your content make sure that the style, the voice, and the message aligns with your brand but that it also consistently connects to the heart of your audience. When you go back and forth between styles, colors, ways of communication you confuse people. When you confuse, you lose.

Finally, becoming effective on social media and making a difference won’t happen overnight. It is going to take time and for you to show up consistently time and time again. Just like building relationships offline, trust and bonds with people happen over time. So, be patient. If you don’t see results right away, don’t feel discouraged. Make the decision that you are in it for the long haul.

The same goes for your brand. Be consistent in style/voice/colors and in content. This way people get familiar with you and what you offer. They know what to expect from you.

That might mean that every Wednesday you do a Facebook live or every Saturday you share a behind the scenes photo of yourself or what you do.

Your people will start looking for those posts with anticipation and excitement. By creating consistency all across the board you are much more likely to draw your audience in and keep them engaged for a very long time.

Here are three things to get you started right away on becoming more effective on social media:

  1. Write out your “why”. What is your desired result from using social media?
  2. Find out who your ideal client or customer is and get to know that person as much as you can.
  3. Make a decision to show up consistently. What that number is is totally up to you. What fits your schedule? Once or twice a week? 5 times a week? Pick the one that works for you and stick with that.

So, there are no excuses now! You’ve got this. You CAN do this.

But you have to get started.

Keep shining bright because your voice and message are so needed in the world.

Cheering for you,
